Sunday School: Lebanese Wines with Special Guest Frankie Saunders

Sunday July 17th • noon pm to 1:30 pm
When you think of outstanding wine regions of the world, you probably don’t think of Lebanon. Still, we are here to tell you that some of the most exciting wine we had the privilege of tasting here at the shop was wine from this region. Every winemaker in this region has a real passion for their wines and is in the game to deliver excellence. These wines are born of hard work and love, and it shows.
We are thrilled to have Frankie Saunders of Importer, Cava Spiliadis, joining us for this class! She has such deep knowledge and connection with the wines, winemakers, and the region, and we can’t wait for her to share her knowledge with you!
Featured Wineries:
SEPT WINERY
Sept Winery lives to revive winemaker Maher Harb’s family land and cultivate it with a life-changing passion. During the years Maher lived in France as a student and early-life employee, Maher embarked on a self-healing and pursuit-of-happiness journey. A journey that led him back to his Father’s land and the memories they shared.
For Maher, happiness unfolded in the taste of wine. With every glass of wine he drank, he imagined himself sitting in his own vineyard in Lebanon, his heart full of joy. This was when he knew he had to leave everything and return to the source. The place where his love for the land started. Reviving the land he inherited was the most beautiful homage he could pay his Father. Maher planted 5,000 vines with his bare hands in tribute to him.
Maher’s dedication to the land is also reflected in his chosen agricultural methods. He wanted to learn the lessons of his village’s ancestors, leading him to the world of biodynamic agriculture. His dedication to biodynamic agriculture is fierce. As a result, he transformed his terraces into the first biodynamic vineyard in Lebanon.
Reserve Ammiq
A winery built around a UNESCO “Biosphere Reserve”, that is home to everything from migratory birds to water buffaloes. The land is one of the few remaining protected lands in Lebanon. Winemaker Peter Skaff makes incredible wines in this beautiful space right in the heart of the Bekaa Valley
What to expect:
A super informative, informal class where you can ask all your questions without judgement. You will taste through 6 different wines. We also provide light bites to accompany your wine.
PLEASE NOTE: If you are booking this class as a special celebration and your group size is larger than four we ask that you book a private event. This will allow us to accomodate all your needs without disruption to the other class participants. Contact us here to book your date.
