ABOUT THE PRODUCER

About Vinyes Singulars Minipuca Ancestral

Vinyes Singulars Minipuca Ancestral is 100% Xarello from single-vineyard Tires del Nan. The wine sees 1-day maceration, steel ferment, method ancestral, and aging for 5 months. Look no further for a unique and elevated take on sparkling wine from a region otherwise known for Cava.

The name Minipuça in Catalan means “flea” or something very tiny. Winemaker Ignasi said he named the wine this because he often has that feeling of feeling like something very small when he’s in the vineyard working

About Vinyes Singulars

Established in 1405, 23rd-generation vineyard-manager and winemaker Ignasi Segui is currently at the helm of his family’s property in Penedès, Spain. With vines as old as 50-60 years, he grows twelve grape varieties. Ignasi also grows olives, wheat, and nuts. He uses organic and biodynamic methods to ensure a balanced ecosystem. Ignasi is well acquainted with regional history and age-old tradition. However, Vinyes Singulars is a winery based around progress and experimentation. They make around 25 different wines. There are 10-15 core cuvées, and the rest take inspiration from the yields of the given vintage. Field blends are central to production, as they offer freedom for the wines to evolve from year to year. Chestnut barrels, amphorae, and stainless steel are prime cellar vessels. No sulfur additions at any point of winemaking.

About Xarel-lo

Xarello, or Xarel-lo, is a fine white grape variety planted on 21,395 acres in Catalunya. The grape produces powerful, age-worthy still and sparkling wines. It is particularly important in the Alella region, known here as Pansa Blanca. It is most commonly found in Penedes, where it is part of the cava blend. It needs careful pruning and the wine it produces can be very strongly flavored. It is the vegetal smell of Xarel-lo that often distinguishes so many cavas from other sparkling wines.
