Vintage: 2015
Region: Rioja, Spain
Viticulture: Organic
Grape varieties: 100% Tempranillo

Blackberry, cherry, and dark plum flavors abound in this solid, energetic wine. The extended barrel aging is apparent with the hints of vanilla, tobacco, coffee and its gentle tannic structure. While full, plump, and weighty, there is a beam of core acidity that gives the wine energy with a long, smoky finish shaped by smooth, even tannins.

Primary fermentation in stainless steel followed by malolactic in concrete and 18 months aging in French & American oak.

About Rioja

Birthplace of the Vina Coterro Rioja Reserva, Rioja was the first Spanish wine region to obtain DO (Denominación de Origen) status, in 1925. In 1991, it was promoted to DOC (Qualified Designation of Origin). DOC is a higher category reserved for wines with that show consistency and quality over time. Rioja is in north central Spain and has three distinct subregions (Alavesa, Alta & Baja). The region also has stylistic diversity. Wine vary from the traditional oxidative wines to the full-throttle modern style. Tempranillo is the dominant grape of the area. Wines from the Rioja are usually Tempranillo or Tempranillo blends. There are four classification levels for wines from Rioja. Genérico, Crianza, Reserva and Gran Reserva. The Vina Coterro Rioja Reserva falls under the Reserva classification.
