ABOUT THE PRODUCER

About Venetsanos Winery Santorini Assyrtiko

Venetsanos Winery Santorini Assyrtiko shows delicate, intense, and complex aromas of pear, white flowers, and citrus fruits. Dominant flavors of bitter orange, with hints of mastic and fennel root. A rich, oily texture in the mouth with a highly refreshing lemony acidity and the characteristic Santorinian saltiness.

About Venetsanos Winery

Built in 1947 by acclaimed oenologist and architect George Venetsanos, the Venetsanos winery is one of the oldest on the island. Its current winemaker, Ionna Vamvakouri, is the only female owner, winery director, and winemaker on the island having spent years proving herself in a male-dominated industry. Today she produces exceptional quality wines for the Venetsanos winery and is widely recognized as one of Santorini’s premier winemakers. She chooses to make each of her labels from single parcels unlike any of the other wineries on the island – Venetsanos is as unique and groundbreaking today as it was in 1947.

About Assyrtiko

Pronounced “a SEER tee ko”. This white varietal is native to Santorini and the other Aegean Islands. Used to make crisp dry wines similar in style to dry Riesling, it is often blended with other varietals – both indigenous and international – such as Sauvignon Blanc. This grape is also used to make the popular Greek dessert wine, Vinsanto.
