About Valérie and Jean-Christophe Tissot

Winemaking runs in the family with the Tissot’s. Valérie & Jean-Christophe are the third generation to work their vines in Jura, France. Jura is a hotbed for natural winemaking. There are lots of Tissot’s scattered about in the small region but this Tissot family is new to the market. The brother and sister team have transitioned into the leadership role. Valérie has taken the title of cellar master from her mother Françoise, who still sneaks in to taste!

About the Tissot Winery

The history of the area actually begins in 1965 at the wedding of Jean-Louis and Françoise Tissot Masson. Valérie had two grandparents connected with the wine business. Albert Piroutet, on her mother’s side, was one of the founders of the Arbois Fruitière in 1906. Albert was one of the strongest advocates for the Arbois to gain AOC status in 1936. Françoise’s father, Albert Masson, also joined the cooperative. She inherited his vines to pool with the 1.6 hectares that Jean-Louis inherited from his father Maurice Tissot.

In the early years, Jean-Louis was part of the Fruitière too. After planting 8 hectares of vines in 1990 they decided to start producing their own wines. These days, Francoise is theoretically retired. Yet, she is never far from the daily activities of the farm as she still helps with tastings.

The domaine, a 17-hectare estate, sits in the heart of the AOC Arbois. The winery blends into the picturesque hillside village of Montigny-les-Arsures. Various parcels spread out over the town, extending to a few hectares in Les Bruyères. Tissot produces the full gamut of Jura wines and spirits.
