About the Tentenublo Winery
Since 2011, Roberto Oliván Iglesias has been farming his eight-hectare family estate. Tentenublo sits in the high, wind-swept Basque country of the Rioja Alavesa. He is one of the leading relics of Rioja. Roberto is more interested in making extraordinary wines from single sites rather than volume blends. His vineyard work uses only organic principles. Only native yeast fermentation starts the wine. He also limits the use of sulfur. Roberto draws upon Rioja’s long-established protocol of barrel aging. Here, he works mainly with French oak. There is a drive to craft personal wines of substance and character. He is deeply attached to Viñaspre, a hamlet in the district of the wine region of Lanciego. It is at the eastern end of the Sierra Cantabria Mountains at an altitude of over 600m above sea level.
