Vintage: 2018
Region: Piedmont, Italy
Viticulture: Organic
Grape variety: 100% Dolcetto
Rocco Di Carpeneto Losna Ovada is made from Dolcetto grapes from a vineyard planted between 1996 and 2000. Bright notes of mature dried red fruits like cranberry and cherry. Notes of balsamic and cinnamon. Full-bodied with big tannins that are nicely integrated into the wine. A slightly bitter but lasting finish. This is Piedmont in a bottle; a big, dry chewy wine that will certainly make you rethink your stance on Dolcetto. Spontaneous fermentation takes place in steel tanks, with the exclusive use of wild yeasts, and prolonged maceration. It then matures for at least 15 months in a mix of old woods, mainly previously used oak barriques.
Song: Samba Triste by Stan Getz & Charlie Byrd

About Rocco Di Carpeneto
Rocco di Carpeneto is a radical, organic winery located on a small plateau amidst the Upper Monferrato hills, i.e. the closest to the Mediterranean Sea part of Piedmont. Wine production is strictly devoted to Piedmont-native grapes (Cortese, Barbera, Dolcetto, Freisa, Albarossa, Nebbiolo) grown in old vineyards — mostly planted between 1955 and 1986. They are a proud VinNatur member.
Rocco di Carpeneto wines are made up of the sun, earth, and their own passion only, in adherence to Upper Monferrato nature’s pace. Vineyards are organically treated with very limited quantities of copper and sulfur, managed with spontaneous grassing, or sown with green manure. Grapes are rigorously handpicked in small crates. The “do nothing farming” principles are the winery’s true inspiration.
