About Podere Casaccia Priscus Toscana Rosso

Podere Casaccia Priscus Toscana Rosso is an old-vine selection of Sangiovese that shows rusticity with beautiful light red fruit and minerality. It’s got berries and smoke, forest floor, and twigs, and an almost Pinot-esque thing going on. Finishes with very soft tannins. The grapes macerate for 48 hours and undergo spontaneous fermentation (ambient yeasts; no temp control). Minimal battonage sur lie in steel vats before a short élevage in old oak barrel. Bottled unfined, unfiltered, no additional SO².

About Podere Casaccia

The purchase of this small property by Roberto Moretti took place in 1999 and is the result of an ancestral passion for the land and nature, transmitted to him by his family with a winemaking tradition for generations.

At the time the idea of becoming a full-fledged winemaker had not yet arisen in him, but the pleasure and passion for the land soon led him to desire to create a natural wine “all his own” that reflected his fervor for manual work both in the vineyard and in the cellar.

With a continuous desire for knowledge on everything related to wine, the land, and nature as a whole, Roberto comes into contact with Biodynamic Viticulture which opens the way for him to the need and intent to combine local tradition with the search for the best agronomic production practices that have maximum respect for the environment. The objective is to obtain, from those ancient and wonderful vines that he had already been tending for several years, grapes of high quality and great expressive originality, the result of the improvement of the structure of the soil from which the plant draws nourishment together with the light and the other elements, in full harmony with all the surrounding nature.
