ABOUT THE PRODUCER

About the Wine

Pierre Cotton 100% Cotton is 100% Gamay from a single vineyard, Les Mines. 65 year old vines grow in pink granite. Cotton divides the harvest in two parts. One for carbonic maceration. The other half for traditional fermentation. Both parts ferment in concrete tanks with no added sulfur. The wine ages 8 months in used foudres (large barrels) before bottling unfiltered.

About the Winemaker

Pierre Cotton sees tremendous potential for his domaine. The Sanvers family farmed and produced wine at the same chai (wine storeroom) in Odenas since 1856. Built in the 18th century the chai is large and filled with cavernous cellars. Over the years it has housed a rotating group of producers. Today, Pierre and his parents are the sole producers to make wine here.

After working for a short stint as a motorcycle mechanic, Pierre spent two years in the Loire Valley. Then he returned to the domaine. In 2014, he reclaimed 1 hectare of Côte de Brouilly for his first cuvée – 100% Cotton. IHe reclaimed another 2 hectares of Brouilly from the family holdings in 2015. Next, in 2016, he purchased 1 hectare of Regnié and 1 hectare of Beaujolais. Starting in 2017, he will harvest 0.3 HA of Beaujolais Blanc. This harvest sits on a unique vein of limestone near the domaine. Cotton hopes to plant more Blanc in the future.
