About Nibiru

Nibiru is located in the most northern part of the Kamptal area, 70 km northwest of Vienna. The main soil condition in this area is Löss, a mostly deep fertile layer of clay, sand, and silt. A specialty where the winery is located is that you find Löss mostly only as the top soil layer. The main soil conditions underneath are very solid types of rock like Amphibolit, Gneiss, or different primary rock types. Most of the vineyards are surrounded by forests. The winery is farming the most northern vineyard in the whole area. Further up north you will only find fields and a big landscape of forests. This combination of the soil types and the northern location creates a very specific expression in the wines. Sometimes very different if you compare it with the wines coming from the rest of the region. Lots of minerality, freshness, and depth in these wines.

The main focus in the vineyards is organic and biodynamic farming after the Demeter principles. The winery loves the diversity of nature and all it ́s cycles throughout the year. Every season is so different and the wines have a strong expression of these conditions and where they come from. With sensitive thoughts, they try to give their best in farming every year and transform healthy grapes into wine with minimal intervention. A lot of handwork is involved, especially on the terrace vineyards. They would rather invest in the people of their team and handwork instead of machinery. All canopy work, leaf plugging, harvesting, and sorting out the grapes before the vinification is handwork. Time is a very important theme in winemaking for them. Most of the wines are kept on the lees for a very long time and in the single vineyard category they only release after around 3 years in barrel, tank, or bottle.
