ABOUT THE PRODUCER

About Mikro Ktima Titos Goumenissa

Mikro Ktima Titos Goumenissa is characterized by a profusely fragrant nose of ripe red summer fruits. Aromas of strawberry, morello cherry, and raspberry merge with layers of herbal and subtle floral scents suggestive of rosemary, jasmine, and allspice. After their manual harvest at the end of September, the two local varieties, Xinomavro and its obligatory blending partner Negoska, are co-macerated and co-fermented, and the wine is aged in oak. This blend is the result of conventional red vinification with continued maceration until the end of the alcoholic fermentation and gentle stirring. After the completion of the ensuing malolactic fermentation, the wine matures for one year in mainly large French oak barrels.

About Mikro Ktima

In Central Macedonia, at the foot of the Paiko mountain range near the provincial town of Goumenissa, surrounded by age-old oaks, lies Mikro Ktima Titos (meaning: Small Estate of Titos). It is here, along the banks of the river Sirios, that Titos Eftychidis planted in 1972 a 4-hectares vineyard with the varieties Xinomavro, Negoska, Cabernet Sauvignon, Limnio and Viognier.

Titos had a long friendship with fellow vigneron Vangelis Gerovassiliou of Domaine Gerovassiliou. When Titos passed away, his wife Angeliki left the vineyard in the hands of someone he trusted most. In 2018 the owners of Ktima Biblia Chora became the official owners of Mikro Ktima Titos Vangelis Gerovassiliou and Biblia Chora owner Vassilis Tsaktsarlis got a foothold in the Goumenissa area, where they set out to create, with love and respect, first-class quality wines from the indigenous grape varieties of the region.

Today, the Estate is experiencing a revival. 4.5 hectares of Xinomavro and Negoska vines thrive in the privately owned vineyard surrounding the winery that is located near the Two Rivers expanse of Goumenissa. Nearby, in Gerakonas, one of the best areas of the PDO Goumenissa zone, an additional 15.5 hectares are cultivated and in neighboring Filiria and Pentafolos a further 7 hectares.

The vines are painstakingly cared for. They are farmed according to organic agricultural standards and tended with attention and respect for the peculiarities of each region. Most of the viticultural work is done manually, including harvesting which typically begins at the end of September.

Spurred on by the potential, the property got repurposed and renovation works on the original building were completed in 2022. The result is an elegant and welcoming winery, fashioned in a style that fits in perfectly with the uniquely picturesque natural surroundings thanks to the use of traditional local architecture methods and earthy colors and materials. Today’s modern winery houses fully-equipped winemaking facilities complete with its barrel vault, purposely built maturation cellar and visitors hospitality center.
