About the Meinklang Burgenland White Blend
Meinklang Burgenland White Blend is an easy-drinking beauty. This blend has notes of apple, white floral, citrus zest, and a peppery finish. The wine is a blend of Grüner Veltliner, Welschriesling, and Muscat. This may be considered Meinklang’s house white wine. The three grape varieties each lend something unique to this blend—acidity, aromatics, weight, and texture. This is the perfect spring white wine due to its light body, its racy lean fruit, and aging in steel tank to keep this wine fresh.
About Meinklang Winery
Meinklang is an original, family-run mixed farm in Austria. The farm is set in the middle of the World Heritage Site of the National Park Neusiedlersee. The Park sits on the eastern side of Neusiedlersee Lake, which borders the Hungarian lowlands. This region celebrates life’s diversity and complexity. Meinklang produces wine from both sides of the Austrian/Hungarian border.
About the Meinklang Farm
The Meinklang farm functions much like a living organism. They rely not only on the people but also on the local herd of cows. The cows contribute in an essential way with their natural and invaluable fertilizer. Ancient grains such as spelt, farro, and einkorn wheat enrich the farm’s diversity. The farm is further enhanced by the fruit orchards and vegetable gardens. Similarly, meadows of wild herbs and flowers bring an elegant charm to the grapevines.
About Biodynamic Farming
Biodynamics is a matter of the heart. It is above all an intensive interaction with everything that surrounds us. From nature we create power; it forms, molds, and nourishes us. By observing and examining nature we can find many answers which often lie deeply hidden away and require us to be in harmony with our farm.
Already at the beginning of the 20th century, some farmers were recognizing the fact that the new farming practices with artificial fertilizers and cross-breeding burdened fruitful development and even rendered it impossible. They asked the anthroposophist, Rudolf Steiner, about his thoughts on this topic, and so it happened that Steiner held a total of eight lectures in Koberwitz bei Breslau in 1924, setting down the founding ideas of organic agriculture. What followed was the founding of the Demeter organization and the Demeter Institute for Biodynamic Research, which, together with research, a quest for new findings, and continuous advances, carried these ideas through to today.
The focus is the running of farms, which, with their individual fauna and flora, form part of the environment. The ultimate goal of biodynamic Demeter’s work is the development of a living farm organism that encompasses livestock breeding, the farm’s own seeds, and feed, as well as its own natural composted fertilizer. The ultimate objective is that the farm develops into a well-balanced, individual entity.
