Mateus Nicolau de Almeida O Tinto Perfeito translates to ‘a perfect red’ and this blend from Portugal might be just that. A glou glou wine perfect for a chill to highlight the fruit and acidity. Red plum, macerated strawberries, rhubarb, and eucalyptus. Super fresh and crunchy! A red and white blend of native Portuguese grapes is done in a lighter style that can shine with a slight chill. 15% white grapes (mostly Malvasia Fina) along with the red-berried Touriga Nacional, Touriga Franca, Tinta Roriz, and Tinta Barroca varieties. Macerated for 10 days before aging in steel tanks and bottled unfiltered and unfined.

About A Perfect Red
A new and impressive addition to a series of Claret wines from the natural wine importer Selection Massale. This iteration hails from Portugal’s northern Douro Valley, the same place that makes the grapes for the country’s storied Port wines but here as a light dry red! From the cellar of the non-interventionist winemaker, Mateus Nicolau de Almeida.
Claret, and its many spelling variations, refer to a light red or even deep rosé style of wine that was popularized centuries ago in England, sourced from the vineyards of Bordeaux which at the time was under the same crown. While Bordeaux holds, quite literally, a monopoly on the name Claret, the style was actually fairly widespread with many historical examples from Iberia and Italy having been attested to.
