About Drood Winery Irdabama Samarghandi

About Drood Winery of Persia

Shahram Soltani, winemaker and founder of Drood, is making wines from native grapes of his homeland while living in Sweden. Shahram’s vision is based on three key components:

  • Nostalgia – Winemaking has been a part of Persian culture for 5,000 years
  • Uniqueness – Old-vine vineyards of indigenous grape varieties grown at elevation unlike anywhere else in the world
  • Passion – To bring back Persian winemaking and to tell the history of Persia through wine

The winery uses ancient native varieties from Persia, that have been growing hundreds of years in the vineyards located in the South-Western parts of the country. The tools and techniques of winemaking are modern and experimental, yet they aim to produce classic Persian wines.

The winery is located in Sweden. Why Sweden? Because Iran has interesting laws when it comes to alcohol production, but also because Shahram is based in Växjö in Southern Sweden.
