About Domaine Le Facteur
Mathieu Cosme started his Vouvray career in 2005 when he took over the reins of Domaine de Beaumont from his father. Mathieu is now the 5th generation to passionately make wine at the family estate in Noizay. Before taking over, Mathieu was a rugby player and then worked at Domaine Huet, which is one of the most highly regarded estates in Vouvray.
Domaine du Facteur is the more natural and playful brand of the estate. Facteur is the French word for the postman. These cuvees are named after the 1920s-1940s postmen who would ride their bikes to deliver mail. It was customary in France to offer wine to the postmen. After a glass of something at every stop, one can only conclude what happened near the end of the route.
The domaine is certified organic. Biodynamic preparations are used as well. The estate has 11 hectares of vines. The land is plowed by horse (mostly done by Mathieu). Harvest is done by hand. Fermentation occurs with indigenous yeast. Fabien Brutout is the winemaker and is from Noizay. After a university course in the field of wine and obtaining a license in 2007, Fabien worked for 2 years as an apprenticeship with Sébastien Brunet in Vouvray. He joined Mathieu Cosme at the end of 2008 and joined the estate full time.
