About Colbacco Quatroprotocollo Rosso
Colbacco Quatroprotocollo Rosso is the winery’s signature blend of old-vine Merlot and Syrah grown on clay soils. Fleshy, tasty, sanguine, easygoing, and electric. Spontaneous fermentation with 10 days maceration without temperature control. Aged in stainless steel tank. No filtering or fining and no added sulfur.
Colbacco is a collaboration between three natural wine producers and lovers in Umbria: Luca and Giulio of Lumiluna, Guido “Zaffo” Santarelli, and Marco Durante (Mr. Kurtz) of il Signor Kurtz.
The four friends have recovered old vineyards of Grechetto, Trebbiano, Sangiovese, and Merlot, to produce wines in the most natural way possible by also recovering the old wisdom handed down by the local elders and mixing it with the most profound modern knowledge of agriculture and enology. Decennial vineyards that were a tangle of brambles and weeds have seen new life and today constitute a real ampelographic heritage to be preserved and passed on to future generations. The vines are grown organically, with spontaneous grassing, without any fertilization, weeding, or pesticides, and only an exclusive use of copper and sulfur. The four produce a range of wines, all spontaneously fermented, without added sulfur, and with neither clarification nor filtration. The wines are micro-productions and very difficult to find.
