About Cantine Barbera NoTrix Perricone

Cantine Barbera NoTrix Perricone is a vibrant and dynamic red wine that does not need any make-up. It has a lively ruby color with violet shades that meet a playful nose of red berries and geranium flowers. Its solid tannins define a medium-bodied palate, where spicy notes of star anise and ginger stand out against a persistent saline background. This is the way Perricone is, and this is how I like this wine to be: no tricks and no frills, far from winemaking models that do not belong to Menfi’s wine tradition.

The grapes used to make NoTrix come from young Perricone vines planted in January 2017 in the western part of Vigne al Pozzo. The grapes are hand-picked in small baskets at the end of September and are immediately brought to the winery for destemming and crushing. Maceration on the skins lasts about six days, and the grape must ferments with wild yeast in stainless steel tanks. After soft pressing and spontaneous malolactic, the wine refines in large neutral Slavonian oak casks for 3 months. NoTrix is not fined nor filtered.

About Cantine Barbera

Marilena Barbera is a third-generation winemaker from Sicily who produces wine on the Belicello Estate. The estate was founded in the 1920s by her grandfather, Lilly Barbera. Despite her aspirations for a diplomatic career after studying political science, Marilena was drawn back to her family’s agricultural business in Sicily. She was captivated by its centenary history and legacy passed down to her by her father and grandfather. Initially focusing on sales and marketing, Marilena began to take a more active role in the winemaking process after her father passed away. Today, Marilena produces her wines in Menfi, Sicily, and believes that there is no better way to represent her land’s history, culture, and passion than through wine. In between decanting and bottling, she continues to travel the world to share her wines with others.
