About Bergkloster Riesling Solera

Bergkloster Riesling Solera is a combination of 2019 and 2020 harvested grapes from the same vineyard. Complex and beguiling. Orchard fruit, bright mineral, taut acidity.

The 2020 juice was blended into the 2019 Riesling barrel. The second fermentation of both of them together added a great complexity to it and a whole lot is happening while drinking it.

About Weingut Bergkloster

From the winery:

Our vineyard is situated at the sun spoiled ‘Wonnegau’, “the land on a thousand hills”. Already in the 18th century our Huguenot ancestors begun to make their living from wine farming and took over the current Vineyard Bergkloster about 120 years ago. By now we have cultivated this vineyard over four generations within our family. We believe in preserving longstanding traditions, but at the same time to be open to new ideas.

Our family consists off Paul-Gerhard Groebe, Cornelia Groebe and our three children – supported by the senior, Anni Groebe.

Our son, Jason Groebe, finished his apprenticeship with excellent results and thereby gathered valuable experience in renowned vineyards. He then started his university study in wine making in Geisenheim. He is already an active member of our workforce and is looking to take on the baton of this wine farm in the future.

Our vineyards – totalling 9 ha – are situated in the Westofen area. It was the Romans who made us the gift of cultivating wine – and that was more than 1200 years ago! Westhofen is one of the hottest regions in Germany. Therefore it offers the most optimal condition for the ripening of grapes. All our vineyards are situated in one of the big regions, Westhofen Bergkloster and Bechtheimer Pilgerfahrt.

All of our wines are “Bio Wines”, which means they are very carefully and organically produced which guarantees a high quality and digestibility while at the same time protect the ecological balance in nature.

We work without any chemical or synthetic substances, as well as genetically modified ingredients. Instead we use biological pest control in order to strengthen and to protect the vine and its grapes as well as sustaining on-going farming. Likewise, in the winemaking process in our cellars we don’t add any sorbic acid and reduce the amount of sulphur to ensure the most natural taste experience. Our wines are also low in histamine which is good news for those suffering from allergies, and it also makes the wine very digestible. Our strong conviction for ecological produced wine ensures the best quality and continuity.
